Thoughtful Thursday: Breaking Some Teeth

A Pop of Color

Psalm 58: 2-6

Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.

The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;

Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.

Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.

Psalm 58 is one of the most serious set of verses in the Bible, yet it offers some measure of comfort to the oppressed, the bullied, the put-upon righteous ones. It is a chilling reminder that God is not just about mercy and grace, but that He is a God of justice and judgment and action against evil. He breaks teeth.
