Psalm 51:17

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

    1. Very observant. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes, but they’re a set of blessings that seem counterintuitive until you read the explanation. First up is “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.”
Then in the Sermon on the Plain, the third woe is “Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.” It’s more about being repentant than being valiant.
